First Educators Now AlaTrust

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — First Educators CU has changed its name to AlaTrust CU.

The $130 million credit union was originally chartered in 1935 to serve employees of the Birmingham Board of Education. It then expanded its FOM in 1968 to serve educators throughout the state who were not already being served by another credit union and then converted to community charter in 2003. The name change is part of an effort to ensure members of the community understand they can join the credit union even if they are not teachers.

Along with the new name, the CU has added a new tagline: "Earning your trust and exceeding your expectations."

"I could not be more excited about beginning this next chapter as AlaTrust," CEO Steve Nix said. "While First Educators certainly holds a great deal of emotional equity for many of our members, it was time to update our name to better represent who we are today. As AlaTrust, expect the same level of service and community commitment... just with a brand new look and enhanced product and service offerings."
