Firstmark To Sponsor Child/Parent Effort

The $461-million Firstmark Credit Union has joined with Southwest Mental Health Center (SMHC) here to sponsor "15+ Make Time to Listen, Take Time to Talk" parent-child communication campaign.

The program will air daily vignettes with questions for parents to use as a conversation-starter tool on News 9 San Antonio, the only 24-hour, 7-day-a-week local news channel. News 9 San Antonio will air the "15+" questions, six times daily for a full year. Parents will be able to look for three new questions every week to use at home.

"The initiative is based on the premise that parents who talk with their children about what is happening in their lives are better able to guide their children towards more positive, skill-enhancing activities and friendships," the credit union said.

"Everyone seems to have such busy lives, that making the time to have a real conversation everyday with a child or young adult is a skill we all could refine," said Firstmark CEO Leon Ewing.

The program offers numerous questions to be used as conversation starters between parents and their children. The questions are designed so that both parents and children can initiate the conversation and are suited for adolescents, as well as younger children.

The campaign will also be promoted online on each of the partners' websites. Direct mail will include Firstmark Credit Union's member newsletter, Southwest Mental Health's newsletter and Time Warner KABOINK! Kids Club newsletter.
