TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Commerce CU said it is dropping the “Florida” from its name as its moved into nearby Georgia with the opening of a branch in Thomasville.
The $360-million credit union asked regulators to become First Commerce CU and will begin switching its signs, websites, forms and other materials this summer to reflect the new name.
“This should be a rather smooth transition process, as we are only changing one word of the name, and the logo design essentially remains the same,” said Cecilia Homison, president of Florida Commerce.
The credit union’s staff, management and board remain unchanged. Members are being asked to continue using their ATM cards and checks until they need to be replaced or reprinted.
The first office outside Florida is scheduled to open in Thomasville in August. The credit union said it will be looking at other markets in neighboring states.
