MCUL noted that Bixby started at the league in 1982 as its managing director and shortly after that became its CEO. He remained in that post until his retirement in 1996.

“MCUL joins the Michigan credit union community in mourning the loss of longtime colleague Ken Bixby,” Dave Adams, MCUL’s current president and CEO, said in a statement. “Through his long and dedicated credit union career, Ken made a big impact in our Michigan community and nationally.”

Bixby was offered a job at MCUL by a former league staffer named Jack Dublin, according to a January 2007 report from Monitor, the MCUL’s newsletter. At that time, Bixby was working as an examiner at the Bureau of Federal Credit Unions, the predecessor of the National Credit Union Administration.

"Jack offered me a job with the MCUL, long before I arrived in 1982 as president/CEO," Bixby said in the newsletter. "Because of Jack's dedication and character, it was a tough decision to stay with the regulator.
