The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) announced the death of its former chairman, Jim Mills.
According to an
Mills was elected to the NAFCU board in 1997 as Region IV director, and he served until 2003, the last three years as chair.
"Jim Mills was an exceptional leader and dedicated credit union advocate," said NAFCU president and CEO Dan Berger in a statement. "Throughout his term on the board and as chair, he helped us advance credit unions and accomplish the 1998 Credit Union Membership Access Act, landmark legislation that preserved multiple-group charters for federal credit unions."
Dennis Dollar, a former chairman of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and now a credit union consultant based in Alabama, told Credit Union Journal that "Jim was an outstanding credit union champion, extremely well liked and respected. He will certainly be missed."
Prior to his time at the helm of Three Rivers, Mills served as vice president of the Southern Indiana Market for Centra Credit Union, and before that worked as an examiner at NCUA for nearly two decades. He retired from Three Rivers in 2004.
