Former Penn. Governor Sees Pivotol Role For CUs

In remarks before the Pennsylvania CU Association's annual meeting here, former Pennsylvania Gov. Mark Schweiker welcomed credit union representatives and reminded, "Your members hope you take their situations seriously. They may be asking for your help at a pivotal time in their life. Give it your best and never give up."

Also during the meeting:

* State Sen. Stewart Greenleaf was honored with the Keystone Award for his sponsorship and efforts in the passage of the State CU Parity Bill.

* At the breakfast held to benefit the Pennsylvania CU Foundation, Anthony LaCreta, director of NCUA's Office of Credit Union Development, reported that "There are 3,976 credit unions in the United States eligible for small credit union programs. There are community development programs to help credit unions serve their members and potential members, particularly the underserved."

During the meeting, former President-CEO Mike Judge was honored with the Keystone Award for his his 37-year career with the state trade association.
