Former San Diego County CU President/CEO Dies

Rod Calvao, who led San Diego County Credit Union as president and CEO from 1992 to 2007, has passed away, the credit union said in a statement.

Calvao first joined the credit union's supervisory committee in January 1973 and was then elected to the board of directors in December 1974. Over the following years, he served in various roles on the board of directors. Most recently, he served as chairman of the board until he retired in May 2014.

Calvao was also a former auditor and controller for San Diego County.

During his 15-year tenure as president and CEO of SDCCU, the credit union grew from 11 branches and $499 million in assets to 24 branches and $4 billion in assets. Today it has $7.6 billion in assets.

"We mourn the loss of our dear friend Rod and our thoughts go out to his wife Barbara as well as his entire family," said current SDCCU president and CEO Teresa Halleck in a statement.

Calvao was 69 years old.
