ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Newly appointed NCUA Chairman Michael Fryzel yesterday announced he has hired Sarah Vega, who succeeded him as state credit union regulator in Illinois, as his chief of staff.

Vega served 10 years as administrator of the Illinois Department of Financial Institutions’ Department’s CU Division, and headed the overall DFI for four years.
Fryzel himself succeeded former NCUA Chairman Ed Callahan as director of the Illinois DFI when Callahan moved to NCUA. Fryzel also sat on the state’s CU Advisory Board for 17 years, forging close ties with Vega during that time.
