LUTHERVILLE, Md. First Financial FCU said Matthew Tress, one of its founders and the first CEO of the now $1-billion credit union, passed away April 27 at 98.
Tress helped charter the credit union for Baltimore County teachers in 1953. At that time, assets were just $5 (contained in a cigar box). The credit union’s base of operations was the home of Tress and wife, Velma Tress.
He held the position of president until 1958, and served as a director until 1978.
