Four More Banks Fail: 2 In California, 2 in Georgia

WASHINGTON – Regulators shuttered four more banks Friday, making a total of 22 failures so far this year.

Friday’s failures included two in California and two in Georgia, where five other banks have failed already this year.

The failed banks are: $333 million San Luis Trust Bank, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; $120 million Charter Oak Bank in Napa, Calif.; $390 million Habersham Bank in Clarkesville, Ga.; and, $215 million Citizens Bank of Effingham in Springfield, Ga.

Earlier last week NCUA said it liquidated Family First FCU in Orem, Utah, and assigned its member accounts to Security Service FCU in San Antonio, the second failed Utah credit union acquired by the $8 billion credit union in the past two months.

Family First was the second credit union failure so far in 2011.
