Fundraisers Held At Credit Union House

CUNA said it helped several leading lawmakers build their campaign warchests last month, sponsoring fundraisers at Credit Union House on Capital Hill.

CUNA held fundraisers and made campaign contributions in July for Senate Banking Committee Chairman Richard Shelby, R-Ala. ($4,500); Sen. Michael Crapo, R-Idaho ($3,000); Reps. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill. ($1,000); Phil Gingrey, R-Ga. ($1,000); and Republican Michael Burgess, a candidate for an open seat from Texas ($1,000). The other largest contributions last month went to: Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., chairman of the Financial Services Committee's Financial Institution Subcommittee; Reps. Steve Buyer, R-Ind. ($2,500) and Richard Pombo, R-Calf. ($2,500); the Superior California Federal Leadership PAC, a leadership PAC run by Rep. John Doolittle, R-Calif. ($2,500); and freshman Rep. Maxie Burns, R-Ga. ($2,000).

CUNA said its PAC raised $135,876 last month and spent $80,137, rebuilding its own campaign warchest to $301,814.

CUNA's PAC maintained its space as the sixth most prolific trade association PAC in terms of contributions to individual congressional candidates for the first half of the year.
