With more than 30 years of executive experience, Smith has worked in a variety of industries prior joining Georgia United's management team in 2002.

But she's no stranger to credit unions, having previously served on the credit union's advisory board back when it was still known as Georgia FCU.

Smith succeeds Doug Foote, who resigned for personal reasons, a CU spokesperson told Credit Union Journal.

"Debbie brings with her over 30 years of experience in human resources, operations and organizational development; having served in a leadership capacity for over 20 years with Maxell, Inc., a division of Hitachi, Inc., a highly successful global organization," said Georgia United Chairman Tom Dickson in a statement. "[She] has been an advocate of the credit union philosophy long before she began her work with Georgia United."

The $950 million-asset institution serves state agency employees, board of regents colleges and universities as well as county government employees.
