ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The nation’s largest credit unions continue to grow through mergers, with NCUA yesterday reporting it approved four more mergers involving credit unions over $1 billion.
They include an agreement by $12 billion Pentagon FCU to acquire $9 million Clara Barton FCU, in nearby Washington, D.C., the credit union giant’s eighth merger since 2004, but first since the end of 2005.
Yesterday, $1 billion University of Wisconsin CU announced an agreement to acquire MATC CU, a nearby $3 million institution.
NCUA also approved applications from:
• The Golden 1 CU, a $7 billion Sacramento, Calif., credit union, to acquire 1st United FCU, a $20 million San Jose, credit union.
• Wright-Patt CU, a $1.4 billion Fairborn, Ohio, credit union, to acquire Grimes CU, a $3 million institution in nearby Urbana.
• Community First CU, a $1.1 billion Appleton, Wis., credit union, to merge into $22 million Miller Electric Employees CU.
