KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – An elderly bandit believed to have robbed as many as seven institutions over the past six weeks–including Tennessee Members 1st FCU twice in the last week–was arrested Saturday at a Georgia hotel.

Sixty-nine-year-old Bobby Joe Phillips, is also suspected in six other bank robberies since September in Georgia and Tennessee.
A police officer saw Phillips' red Chevrolet pick-up in the Holiday Inn parking lot around 7:30 a.m. and moments later saw him walking toward it. The officer arrested Phillips without incident. In each robbery, the suspect gave the bank teller a note demanding money and flashed a handgun that was in his waistband.
Authorities called him the Grandpa Bandit because of his age.
