The Massachusetts Credit Union League has created the "Credit Union Community Hope Initiative," which will be the umbrella identity under which the league promotes solutions for problems that relate to affordable housing and homelessness.
The Credit Union Community Hope Initiative will incorporate three major areas of community outreach: support for homeless families through the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, subsidized mortgage loans, and financial literacy programs.
The league's involvement in housing and homeless issues dates back to 1989 when it formed the Massachusetts Credit Union Affordable Housing/Homeless Trust, for which it has raised more than $500,000.
"For years the credit unions of Massachusetts have dedicated time, money and energy to battling homelessness and the lack of affordable housing," said MCUL President Daniel F. Egan, Jr. "Now, by clearly defining our mission with this great new identity, we can reach a greater audience and be more effective."
