Idaho CUs' Food Drive Covers 'The Blue'

A food drive sponsored by several Boise credit unions and a local radio station brought in 106,000 pounds of food and $11,000 in cash donations for the Idaho Food Bank.

The goal of the "Cover the Blue" food drive, the brainchild of KQFC Radio FM 98's "Waking Crew," Cory and Debi, was to cover the entire blue astro turf of Boise State University's Bronco Stadium. Enough food was brought in to cover the outline of the state of Idaho stretched from end zone to end zone.

As the title sponsors of the event, credit unions helped gather food and money as well as provide volunteers who worked close to 100 hours during the event. The 11 sponsoring credit unions raised just over $4,800 in cash and collected approximately 1,054 pounds of food in the barrels in their offices.

Participating credit unions included Albertsons Employees' Federal Credit Union, Boise Telco Federal Credit Union, Capital Educators FCU, Idaho Central Credit Union, Idaho National Guard FCU, Idaho United CU, Idahy FCU, Les Bois FCU, Mountain View FCU, Pioneer FCU, and Saint Alphonsus Medical Credit Union.
