INDIANAPOLIS – The former operations manager and head teller at Health Care Professionals CU were convicted of stealing almost $600,000 from the credit union by crediting their own accounts from general ledger funds.
Jill Carey, 35-year-old former operations manager who now lives in Key Largo, Fla., yesterday was sentenced to 12 months in prison and ordered to pay $395,000 in restitution after she pleaded guilty to a charge of embezzlement by a credit union employee.
Earlier, Renee Pennington, former head teller for the $17 million Richmond, Ind., credit union, pleaded guilty to embezzling $185,000.
Prosecutors said credit union employees had control over their own accounts and each woman stole the funds by depositing money from credit union general ledger accounts into their own share and share draft accounts.
