JetStream Federal Credit Union, Miami Lakes, Fla., on Thursday said it is the first credit union in the state of Florida to receive the Juntos Avanzamos Credit Union designation.
The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions recognizes credit unions committed to serving and empowering Hispanic consumers with the Juntos Avanzamos designation (Spanish for “Together we Advance”).
A ceremony to commemorate the designation will be held March 8, in conjunction with the grand opening of $187 million JetStream FCU’s new Doral branch.
Ozzi Muniz, a member of JetStream, offered a testimonial to its commitment. Muniz is a popular Spanish-language radio personality in South Florida with a daily show on TU94.9. He has been a member of JetStream Federal for many years.
In a statement released by JetStream, Muniz recalled the circumstances under which he first found the credit union.
“I was looking to buy a used car. I was young and didn’t have much credit. Everywhere I went the banks were charging me very high rates or said I didn’t qualify for an auto loan. A friend told me about his credit union, and how it had helped him many times. When I arrived at JetStream Federal the staff, and especially the manager, Carmen Garcia, was very helpful and explained in detail my various options. JetStream was able to offer me a loan payment I could afford at a good rate.
“My experience with JetStream was fantastic,” Muniz continued. “I felt like part of the family and I will never forget them for taking care of me when I needed them the most. After this experience, I have financed several other vehicles with JetStream.”
