Kansas Bank Ninth of Year to Fail

TOPEKA, Kan. – The $752-million Columbian Bank and Trust Co. here has been shuttered by the FDIC, which placed it into receivership.

The bank is the ninth to fail so far this year. According to state regulators, Columbian Bank posted a $5.2 million loss during the second quarter and has a portfolio of troubled real estate.

At the time of its closing, the bank had $46 million in uninsured funds across approximately 610 accounts. The $1-billion Citizens Bank and Trust, Chillicothe, Mo., has assumed $308 million of Columbian’s insured deposits.
