TUKWILA, Wash. – The credit union loan officer turned America’s Got Talent quarter-finalist now can turn his attention – full time – to his day job.
BECU’s David Johnson was eliminated last night from NBC’s national talent show that awards $1 million and a contract for an ongoing show in Las Vegas to one performer [CU Journal, June 29].
Johnson played another humorous song he wrote, this time about the main cast members from the TV sitcom “The Golden Girls,” which ran on NBC from the mid-1980s to the early ’90s. But all three of the show’s judges – Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, and David Hasselhoff – cut Johnson’s performance short by hitting their buzzers, signaling that he just wasn’t funny enough.
When Johnson first appeared in June on America’s Got Talent, he played a minute-and-a-half comedic serenade to Hasselhoff, the former “Baywatch” star. It was the first time Johnson had played in front of an audience of more than 20 people, he explained. “It’s been amazing,” Johnson said on air about his run on the show, adding that his final performance “got laughs out of some people. Apparently not enough.”
