Longtime CEO to leave East River Federal Credit Union later this year

East River Federal Credit Union in Madison, S.D., has named Tanya Hobson as its next president and CEO.

Hobson succeeds Mechelle Johnson, who will leave in June after serving 24 years in the top job.

The $31 million-asset institution said in a press release on its website that Hobson has worked at the credit union since December as vice president of operations. She has a total of 20 years in the financial services industry, including 16 years at credit unions.

Hobson served as chief operations officer and chief administration officer at the $230 million-asset WyHy Federal Credit Union of Cheyenne, Wyo., according to her LinkedIn profile. She was also vice president of operations at the $118 million-asset Sioux Empire Federal Credit Union in Sioux Falls, S.D.

“East River FCU has done an outstanding job over the years under Mechelle’s leadership and I look forward to leading an organization with a talented team,” Hobson said in a statement.

East River posted net income of about $267,100 in 2018, a 24.7 percent increase from the prior year.
