Columbia Credit Union in Vancouver, Wash., has expanded into neighboring Oregon as the CU continues to eye other opportunities to offer its services beyond its 12 branches in Clark County.
The $1.1 billion-asset credit union announced Tuesday new services areas in four counties in the Portland region: Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah and Washington counties.
Columbia is also evaluating potential locations for a loan service center in the four-county Portland region and is considering other additional service centers and branches, although it remains undecided on the number, type or locations of these potential facilities.
The credit union indicated its plans follow regional economic trends where people live and work on both sides of the Columbia River.
"This natural progression and logical expansion of our market opens the door for us to better serve the 5,500-plus families we're already assisting across the Columbia River and opens our services to others who may have wanted to join Columbia Credit Union, but couldn't," Steve Kenny, president and chief executive of Columbia CU, said in a statement.
