Man Gets Surprise When Robbing Branch

OROVILLE, Calif. – A man who allegedly tried to rob a branch of Sierra Central Credit Union here got a surprise: an off-duty police officer was conducting a transaction in the branch at the same time.

According to police, Officer David Bryning took the suspect to the floor, and with assistance of another member in the branch, held him until other police arrived.

Alexander Scott Sears, 48, has been arrested and charged. He was grabbed by Officer Bryning immediately after being overheard telling a teller it was a robbery and asking for money.
