Matz, who served on the three-member board from 2002 through 2005, is the first board member to return to the agency after the expiration of a term.

Since her last turn on the board Matz has been, among other things, working as a top executive in a nearby credit union, Andrews FCU, where she served as chief operating officer, then briefly as interim CEO.

She took the oath of office in a private ceremony attended by her husband Marshall Matz and NCUA staff.

Matz's appointment moves aside Michael Fryzel from the chairman's office and also creates a two-to-one Democratic majority on the board, with Gigi Hyland, the third member also a Democrat.
