McCormack Sees Big Change From The 1980s

HERSHEY, Penn.-Jim McCormack knows how nice it is to get down to business now at the annual meetings of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association, because many years ago the CU focus was always on dues.

"I remember, more than 20 years ago, all that credit union leaders wanted to talk about was dues, dues, dues," said the outgoing PCUA president at the association's meeting here last week. At the end of 2013, McCormack will step down, retiring after 32 years with the league, 42 in the CU movement.

"Today, we talk about the things we need to move credit unions forward and support Pennsylvania."

McCormack lauded the work of the league and the Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation to help residents of the Keystone State. "All the way up and down the line, at all levels of this organization, the staff have been exceptional. They have always been focused on the mission of credit unions-people helping people."

The league's Youth Ambassador Program, which selected a new leader last week, has been integral, McCormack said, to the future of Pennsylvania credit unions. "This is a program that really stands out in my mind, when I think back on all we have done here at the league. We are creating not only strong and educated credit union members with this program, we are creating future CU leaders."
