YAKIMA, Wash. – Officials with newly merged Yakima Valley CU and Catholic CU will call their new $500 million credit union Solarity CU.
“Solarity is a name that represents energy, the liveliness of our people and the vigor that we put into the communities that we serve,” said Mina Worthington, president of Yakima Valley Credit Union.
The merger, previously approved by regulators, will be effective Oct. 1.
Yakima Valley CU opened in 1939 as Fireman’s CU. It changed to Yakima City and County Employees CU in 1960 to broaden its services. By 1985, it encompassed both Yakima and Kittitas counties. It has 30,380 members.
Founded in 1951, Catholic CU merged with Catholic CU of Kittitas County in 1992, and now has more than $185 million in assets and 18,000 members.
