LANSING, Mich. Credit unions throughout Michigan will participate in a “cash mob” Tuesday, offering coupons and other financial inducements for consumers to shop locally as part of their celebration of International Credit Union Week.
With the second annual CU Lunch Local event, participating credit unions have committed to buy local on Oct. 15, with many bringing in food for staff and members from local eateries. United Educational CU in Battle Creek will give its members coupons for half off a meal at a local restaurant, and offer drawings for gift cards at local businesses.
More than 60 credit unions from every corner of the state have signed up to participate in this year's CU Lunch Local, organizers said.
CU Lunch Local was begun in Michigan in 2012 with 51 participating credit unions. This year, credit unions in Louisiana and Ohio also will take part.
