LOWELL, Mass. M/A COM FCU, which moved to the historic mill buildings in downtown Lowell in 2005, is changing its name to Mills42 FCU as a nod to its heritage.
The $15-million credit union was chartered in 1958 to serve the employees and families of M/A-COM Technology Solutions. It expanded its charter to serve communities within greater Lowell and moved downtown in 2005.
The Mills42 FCU name, created in partnership with marketing firm, Raoust+Partners, is an acknowledgement of the heritage of Lowell and its role in America’s Industrial Revolution in the early 1900s, when the city was at the center of the world’s textile manufacturing.
The “42” in the name is a reference to the line of latitude where Lowell can be found on world maps and navigational charts. The credit union said 42 is a tribute to immigrants from all over the world who came to work in the mills in the early days, and who still leave a cultural impression on Lowell today as the city is enjoying a renaissance.
