With the credit union’s ‘Mission 4 R Schools’ accounts the credit union will deposit $25 in any new account, and also make a matching $25 donation to the school of the new member’s choice.

The concept for the accounts is similar to the Individual Development Accounts, with which credit unions and banks offer matching funds to depositors to encourage long-term savings.

The Mission accounts will allow local and college students to use the matching funds to support science, math, arts, music, physical fitness, academic and other enrichment programs. Funds can be used for everything from classroom computers to museum field trips, instruments for the band to science equipment and classroom supplies.

"At Mission Federal, we are acutely aware of the critical need for additional funding sources for our local schools, so we developed this groundbreaking fundraising opportunity to show our support during these extreme budget times," said Tricia Link, vice president communications and community relations, for the $2 billion credit union. "The 'Mission 4 R Schools' matching donation funds will be provided to schools by Mission Fed without any strings attached."
