DALLAS-Mortgage-related jobs eked out a gain last quarter according to a report from MortgageDaily.com.
Lenders added a net total of approximately 700 mortgages jobs, leading to the second consecutive quarter that the employment picture has improved. Florida emerged with the biggest gain.
But those 700 new jobs represent a real slowdown from hiring in Q4 2009, when more than 2,800 new real estate lending positions were added. JPMorgan Chase hired a net total of 440 new mortgage-related employees last quarter.
The FDIC and Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America also added several hundred jobs apiece. Employees at troubled lender GMAC felt the worst of the layoff axe as the financier eliminated nearly 500 positions. Wells Fargo also cut more than 300 mortgage-related jobs.
