SILVER SPRING, Md. - Financial troubles are not only taking a toll on Americans’ wallets, but also on their sleep according to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.
About three-fourths of homeowners taking the Mortgage Reality Check said that they ware losing sleep because of worries over the possibility of losing their home and cars or access to credit.
More than 10,000 consumers have used the self-diagnostic tool at www.housinghelpnow.org, where they answer a dozen questions before being told what their risk is for facing foreclosure. “If anyone is curious about where they stand relative to foreclosure, a visit to this Web site would be time well-spent,” said Gail Cunningham, spokesperson for the NFCC. “If they find themselves in trouble, it is critical that they reach out for help immediately.”
Eighty-five percent of respondents indicated they were concerned over being able to make their mortgage payments once their loan resets and almost 60% admitted skipping some bill payments in order to make others. About half they’d applied for credit within the last six months but were turned down.
