NASCUS Hosts Kenyan CU Executive

The National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) met with Kenyan credit union regulator Patrick Khaemba to discuss the state credit union system during a recent trip that was sponsored by the World Council of Credit Unions.

Kenya has the largest credit union movement in Africa with approximately 3,200 credit unions, called savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs). Khaemba met with regulators and credit union trade executives to learn about the American credit union system. Khaemba is the permanent secretary for the Kenyan Ministry of Co-operative Development and Marketing. According to NASCUS, WOCCU's Technical Development and Regulatory Systems Manager, Jes?s "Chuy" Ch?vez, is working with Khaemba on new credit union laws and regulations for Kenya's cooperatives. Chavez accompanied Khaemba on this recent trip.
