COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Navy FCU, which last month was approved to serve Army and Air Force personnel, last week said it plans to open two new branches here, the home of the Air Force Academy, next year.
The move into the Springs puts the world’s largest credit union in direct competition for members with Ent FCU, southern Colorado's largest financial institution, and Security Service FCU, two billion-dollar credit unions that also serve military personnel.
Navy Fed, which was chartered to serve personnel of the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard, last month was approved by NCUA to also serve Army and Air Force personnel.
The $35 billion credit union plans to open its first branch at Space Center Drive, just outside Peterson Air Force Base, in the fourth quarter, and its second at Kelly Johnson Blvd., near the south entrance of the Air Force Academy.
The credit union giant, which operates 150 branches in 24 states and 10 other countries, plans to open 180 branches over the next six years.
