Lyon began her career at the then New Mexico Credit Union League in 1994. She served as field representative, director of education and vice president of Credit Union Services.

Under Lyon’s guidance, the New Mexico CU Education Foundation, administered through CUANM, has prospered and presented thousands of dollars in scholarships to more than 1,200 New Mexico students, the league said. In 2001, she oversaw the formation of CU Succeed, a financial literacy program for teens. Under her direction, the Association also acquired Kirby Kangaroo, a financial literacy program for children. The CUANM youth marketing program has grown to be a leader in financial literacy programs for children and teens, CUANM said.

In 2004, Lyon announced that CUANM would spearhead a five-year campaign to raise $1 million dollars for a new pediatric emergency unit at the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital.
