DULUTH, Ga. – Georgia United CU on Thursday announced CEO Warren Butler is retiring after 29 years with the credit union and Douglas Foote, its chief operating officer since 2003, is being promoted to president of the recently $900-million credit union.
Georgia United was created by last year’s combination of Georgia FCU with State Employees CU in the state’s biggest merger. The resulting credit union giant now serves 115,000 members, including state employees, colleges and universities, 11 county schools systems, and 450 companies.
Butler joined the former Georgia FCU as branch manager in 1983 when it had just $25 million in assets. He worked his way up to the corner office, first as operations manager and vice president, until he was named CEO in 2002.
Foote has more than 20 years in financial services and came to the credit union in 2003 from EXCEL FCU, where he was executive vice president. At Georgia United he has overseen the credit union’s lending programs and the branch networks and helped develop the E-Branch call center.
