CUNA Mutual Group has developed an interactive check-fraud training kit exclusively for its credit union bond policyholders. Designed for credit union front-line staff, the kit incorporates an interactive CD-ROM and related support materials to build awareness of check-fraud issues and assist credit union employees in preventing or reducing check fraud, the company said. In addition to the CD-ROM, the kit includes a Facilitator Guide, Learner Workbook and other resources, including a direct link from the CD-ROM to a specialized CUNA Mutual web page devoted to check-fraud education.
The training kits are now available at no cost to all CUNA Mutual bond policyholders (94% of U.S. CUs).
In producing the kit, CUNA Mutual said that annual check fraud losses are estimated to run between $12 billion and $16 billion. In 2002, CUNA Mutual paid more than 13,000 fraud claims.
