North Carolina’s SECU Seeks Super Savings FAT CAT

RALEIGH, N.C. – State Employees’ CU, which added $3.2 million in savings during last year’s North Carolina Financial Literacy for Youth Month, is hoping to top that amount this year with help from a new super hero during National Credit Union Youth Week, April 23-27.

Featuring a superhero concept, this year’s theme is “Be A Credit Union Super $aver.” The credit union said it offers youth members a fun event to help understand the importance of saving at an early age. FAT CAT (kids up to age 12) and Zard members (ages 13-19) will automatically be entered in the sweepstakes when a deposit is made to any FAT CAT or Zard account during the Challenge week. A random drawing will determine the winners of a Kindle Touch 3G E-Reader for one FAT CAT Super Saver and one Zard Super Saver to conclude the Saving Challenge.

To promote both events, SECU branches across the state create colorful displays using the Saving Challenge theme, hold appreciation days for youth members using fun, educational games and activities, and provide financial education presentations in local schools and branches using SECU’s FAT CAT program for children 12 and under, and the Biz Kid$ and NEFE (National Endowment for Financial Education) curricula for teens. SECU currently serves 212,000 FAT CAT and Zard members with nearly $125 million in savings.

Last year’s Sweepstakes resulted in more than 700 new youth accounts opened with nearly 17,500 young credit union members depositing a total of $3.2 million.
