Marvel Ebenhahn, president of Community CU in New Rockford, N.D., is set to step down as president on January 1, 2017, having served the credit union for 65 years.
Operations manager Barb Messner will succeed her at the helm, though Ebenhahn is set to stay on in an advisory capacity and will also do some work as a loan officer.
Ebenhahn's father is one of the founders of the credit union, which was established in 1942 as Eddy County FCU. She became president of the credit union 10 years later, and since then has helped it grow from 250 members and $18,000 in assets to nearly 6,000 members and $165 million in assets today.
"Marvel has been a mentor and inspiration for many credit union leaders throughout the decades here in North Dakota," said Jeff Olson, president and CEO of the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas. "Not only does she embody the cooperative spirit of putting members first, she really epitomizes our wonderful, traditional 'small town' rural values of faith, family, community, and hard work."
