Northern Redwood FCU Employee Charged With Siphoning $100,000 From Elderly Members

ARCATA, Calif. – An employee at Northern Redwood FCU was arrested Tuesday and charged with embezzling more than $100,000 from member accounts.

Elliot McCarl, 32, was charged with embezzlement and elder abuse after an audit and an investigation was completed this week, police said.

McCarl, who worked for the $16 million credit union for three years, allegedly transferred money from about five member accounts to his personal account. He allegedly picked people who seemed “inattentive in their banking practices” or were elderly, police said.
