IRVINE, Calif. – Organizers of several “Occupy” demonstrations are putting together plans for what they are calling a “federation” of credit unions.
A newly chartered non-profit called Occupy First is meeting here Saturday with organizers from other Occupy groups for its inaugural assembly. The meeting will be broadcast live nationwide on the Internet.
Another Occupy group in San Francisco already is putting together an application for a state chartered credit union it plans to call People’s Reserve CU.
“We need people interested in taking the control of money away from the big banks to join us in person and online,” the local group said on its website OccupyFCU.org or Meetup.com/occupytogether/Irvine-CA/608832
The organizers said “the Occupy First Credit Unions will be run by The People and for The People. We are seeking individuals with skills in finance, marketing, law, customer support and/or software development to join this virtual occupation. The federation will be nationwide and we need people in your area to join us.”
