Only one shot was fired, grazing but not puncturing the officer’s skull, police said. The officer is in critical condition but expected to survive.

The officer was using the ATM when the suspect approached him, took his cash and wallet and then shot him, according to police. The officer was using his personal car when the incident happened, and it was not known if he was wearing anything that identified him as law enforcement.

Witnesses said the suspect made the officer lay face down at the ATM machine and went through his wallet and saw his Police Department badge inside. He then took his wallet and shot him in the head execution-style.

Several employees at the credit union pulled the officer in and locked the door immediately after the shooting and used paper towels to stop the bleeding.
