MOORE, Okla. The massive, mile-wide tornado packing 200-mile-per-hour winds that roared through the suburbs of Oklahoma City and leveled the town of Moore, killing 24 people at last report, has damaged at least one CU office.
Tinker FCU, headquartered in Oklahoma City, Okla., said on its website its office at 400 S.W. 6th Street in Moore sustained considerable damage Monday and is closed indefinitely. The CU noted employees safely rode out the storm in the branch’s vault.
Tinker also temporarily closed nine other branches in the Oklahoma City area Monday afternoon during the storm’s assault. CU Journal could not reach TFCU to determine the extent of the damage to the 6th Street branch.
FAA CU, also based in Oklahoma City, noted on its website yesterday that its Norman and S. 104th and Western offices were closed for the remainder of Monday. CU Service Center has a branch located in Moore, but the Journal was not able to obtain details on its status.
Monday’s deadly storm followed tornadoes that slammed the Plains Sunday, killing one and leaving more than 20 injured. Those storms apparently spared credit unions, based on reports gathered by the leagues in Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, Iowa and Kansas.
