SC League Votes To Shrink Board
COLUMBIA, S.C.-The South Carolina Credit Union League board will shrink in size by half next year. The state's credit unoins have voted to reduce to seven from 14 the number of members on the board. The move will also extend director terms to three years. According to the SCCUL, to execute the change, each current SCCUL director will resign April 17, 2010 during the league's annual business meeting. All interested in continuing on the board must seek nomination and be elected by the traditional mail-in ballot process. The change also sets up future election cycles by staggering terms of successful candidates. Three seats will have three-year terms, two will have two-year terms, and two will have one-year terms. The league said last week it is making the move in response to the shrinking number of credit unions; there are 81 CUs in South Carolina, down from a high of 202 in 1978.

CU Pays It Forward To Hospice
BATAVIA, N.Y.-Tonawanda Valley FCU awarded a $1,000 grant under its "Pay it Forward" promotion to The Crossroads House, a comfort home for the dying.
The winner was awarded based on a video submission by one of Crossroads' volunteers that showed the program was run strictly on donations and isn't allowed to collect anything from the residents who come there to live during their last months of life. Under the Pay It Forward program, community members are asked how they would spend $1,000 they are given.
