Employee Charged With Stealing More Than $200K
SHREVEPORT, La.–An employee of WESLA FCU was arrested on charges she manipulated customer accounts to steal more than $200,000 she used to pay personal bills and buy lottery tickets. Elaine Carr, 42, allegedly opened three unauthorized credit card accounts in her name and her husband’s and then manipulated inactive accounts of other members to make her payments. Police believe the scheme was underway the entire seven years Carr worked at the $70-million credit union. The confirmed loss to the credit union so far is $211,000.
‘Little Guy’ Coins Given Out On Capitol Hill
WASHINGTON–CUNA last week distributed chocolate “Little Guy” coins to commuters in Washington and to congressional staff before many headed for summer recess. The coins are part of CUNA’s “Change the Conversation” program and were emblazoned on one side with the words “Credit Unions are big on people, not profit,” and on the other with “For another treat, visit www.lookoutforthelittleguy.org.” Nearly 4,000 chocolate coins were distributed.
CU Home To Resemble Historic Railroad Depot
DURAND, Mich.–SageLink CU broke ground on a new headquarters that will resemble a railroad depot in recognition of the city’s background as a railroad center. Architects hired by the $135-million CU are studying Durand’s historic Union Station, where 42 passenger trains, 22 mail trains and 78 freight trains once passed through daily. Architects also are looking at train depots around the country in designing the new facility.
