Proposal To Open City To CU Tabled

VENTURA, Calif.-The Ventura County Board of Supervisors has tabled a proposal that called for Western FCU to be given the same access to its 8,000 employees as is Ventura County Credit Union, which was founded to serve those workers. The Board agreed to defer consideration of the plan until Supervisor John Zaragoza, who had earlier asked staff to study the issue of bringing in a second CU to serve county employees, brings the matter back to the board. At present, VCCU is the only CU recognized by the county and mentioned during employee orientations. The $1-billion Western Federal had asked to also offer its services to county workers (CU Journal, Feb. 7).

 

Miracle Match Sees 20% Increase

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-Credit unions participating in the CO-OP Miracle Match program raised more than $3 million in Credit Unions for Kids fundraisers in 2010, a 20% increase compared to 2009. "The credit union spirit of people-helping-people is something that continues to thrive even during tough financial times," said Stan Hollen, President/CEO of CO-OP Financial Services, and a member of the Children's Miracle Network's Board of Governors.

Participating credit unions raised more than $2 million for Children's Miracle Network in 2010, with the total exceeding $3 million when combined with CO-OP Miracle Match funds. The Austin (Texas) Chapter of Credit Unions raised the most money during two events it held in support of Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas ($362,395).

 

MLB Pitcher Turns MCU Pitchman

NEW YORK-Municipal Credit Union will launch a series of TV commercials this week featuring John Franco, the longtime relief pitcher for the New York Mets, as the credit union's new spokesperson. Franco, who holds the major league record for saves by a left-hander (424), will be featured on television and in other media and will make public appearances on behalf of the $1.6-billion credit union. The Brooklyn native has a long history with the credit union, as his father was a city employee and Municipal member.

 

CU24, FIS Sign ATM/POS Contract

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Credit Union 24 has signed a contract with Fidelity National Information Services to provide it with ATM and POS switch services for its participating CUs. CU24 connects its member CUs to more than 100,000 ATMs in the U.S., 55,000 of which are surcharge-free to credit union members of the network.

 

Elevations CU Converts To Symitar

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-Elevations CU has signed with Jack Henry & Associates to install the company's Symitar Episys core processing system. "Our employees will enjoy a comprehensive, integrated system that ultimately will help them to better serve our members," said Gerry Agnes, CEO of the $1-billion CU.
