SALT LAKE CITY – An elderly robber who left a fake bomb at Beehive CU during an armed robbery last December will likely spend the rest of his days behind bars.
Andre Vasquez, 65-years-old, who confessed to separate heists at TransWest CU and Chase Bank before the bomb threat-robbery at Beehive, was sentenced to 41 years in prison without parole. He was also ordered to repay almost $140,000 he stole during the robberies.
Vasquez robbed the Beehive CU branch in South Jordan on Dec. 19, 2008, after he left a black bag with a nine-volt battery hooked to green and red lights on the counter. Two members followed him as he left the building and held him for police.
After his arrest he told authorities he also called in a fake report of an armed person entering a local high school on May 23, 2008, as a distraction from his heist at a TransWest CU in Sandy and robbed another credit union in Nevada in 2007.
