SAN FRANCISCO – A convicted bank robber was charged with robbing a downtown branch of Pacific Service CU twice in a little more than a month -- both times victimizing the same teller.
At the time of the hold-ups the suspect, identified as James Gregory, 53, was staying at a halfway house in Oakland after serving a 17-year sentence for a 1991 bank-robbery spree.
Grimes allegedly robbed the Pacific Service branch at 245 Market Street of $2,640 on July 16. He threw a bag onto the counter, shouted expletives at the teller and placed his hand inside the bag and pointed it at her as if he had a gun, according to court records.
Then on Aug. 28 he walked up to the same teller, dropped a newspaper on the counter and demanded money, threatening to shoot her if she didn't comply, the court records state. The robber, wearing black pants, a black suit jacket and black baseball cap, fled with $4,491.
Police found Grimes at the bus terminal wearing the same clothes as described by witnesses. When he was approached, money fell out of a folded newspaper he was carrying.
