PenFed Merges with Fort Gordon and Community CU in Ga.

Pentagon Federal Credit Union in Alexandria, Va., has merged with Fort Gordon and Community Credit Union in Augusta, Ga.

The $19 billion-asset PenFed's combination with the $63 million-asset Fort Gordon took effect today.

PenFed has about 1.4 million members and operates more than 30 branches in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam, Japan and Portugal. Fort Gordon was founded in 1958 and had about 6,200 members and two branches.

PenFed merged with three military-affiliated credit unions in 2015: NAVFAC FCU in Honolulu; AAFES FCU in Dallas; and Corps of Engineers FCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
