ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The parents of Marine Corporal Jason Dunham, who was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Bush last year, will be on hand at the Pentagon FCU Foundation’s Military Heroes Award on behalf of their son at the credit union’s fourth annual Night of Heroes Gala.
Also honored at this year’s fundraiser will be Colonel H.C. "Barney" Barnum, USMC retired, the fourth Marine recipient of the Medal of Honor who received his award for valor in Vietnam.
The credit union’s annual fundraiser has provided financing for a number of projects to help wounded soldiers, including a last-stage hospice at Walter Reed Army Medical Center; wireless laptop computers and networks at military hospitals; interest-free emergency loans; childcare for wounded soldiers and grants to assist military personnel to help them buy their first homes.
This year’s funds will be used to help build a 412 million, 33-room veterans and wounded warrior lodge at the Palo Alto VA Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif.
