NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – A wide-bodied man who robbed a Rockland FCU branch and Pawtucket CU in nearby Warwick, R.I., May 27 is believed to be responsible for five other holdups in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire along the Interstate 95/495 corridors in recent weeks.
The suspect is being called the “pillow-bellied bank robber” because in some cases he is so large that appears to have stuffed a pillow under his shirt. The man wears different disguises in each robbery. In one, he wore a long-haired wig and a baseball cap; in at least two he wore a cowboy hat; and in another he wore John Lennon-type sunglasses and a black wig.
The two credit unions were robbed within 90 minutes of each by the same man, according to video surveillance. In one incident, he wore a beard and sunglasses, police said. The same suspect is believed to have robbed a Digital FCU branch in Tyngsborough, Mass., on May 5.
Police are worried that he's getting more dangerous because he has shown tellers a gun in his most recent robberies.
